The pictures immediately to the right show some of us crowded into a storm shelter at the fairgrounds in Harlan. This was for the bad storm that came through Harlan, described briefly on the Day 1 journal.
As this day began, I still had a questionable stomach from the previous night’s supper. I decided to ride anyway, but wasn’t sure if I was going to do the century loop. I couldn’t believe they were doing the century loop this early in the week. I don’t remember it ever being this early before.
Josh, Jake and David drove the van and camping gear over to the next overnight town, which was Jefferson.
I didn’t push myself, and did decide to do the century loop. Eventually, I caught up with the rest of Team Shaver, except for Scott and Diane. For a while, I rode with John and Abby. Abby was riding behind John on a tag-along, and John was having a hard time of it. He was seriously thinking of calling Josh and having him come pick them up somewhere. Abby had ridden her own bike on day 1 but John thought day 2 might be too hard for her, so that is why he was doing the tag-along. They did make the whole ride this day.
A group of us ate at the Beekman’s ice cream stop this day. The Mr. Pork Chop food stand was right next to Beekman’s, and this is the first time I remember the two being together before.
After leaving Beekman’s, I continued riding a ways with John and Abby, then continued riding with Stacey, Joe, Zach and Ben. I ended up riding into Jefferson with Zach and Ben.
Josh had picked out a nice shaded area for our tents at the Jefferson High School. We had just a little rain as we were entering Jefferson, and then while we were showering.
We ate at the Pizza Ranch this evening, and I burned my mouth pretty good.
